Awards:
To stay with the cuckoo theme, every finisher of the full and half-marathon will receive a Black Forest cuckoo wistle on a ribbon as a finisher award.
1st & 2nd overall , Winner Masters (age 40+) male and female
Top 5 in age groups: 20-29,30-39,40-49,50-59,Top 3 19 and under, 60+
We have placed the order for the age group awards. These unique awards come from the Black Forest of Germany. They are german weather houses. They can predict future weather pretty much as reliable as "Glen Hurrican Schwarz" . Here is how they work: There is a gut string inside which reacts to all changes in air humidity. Depending on wether the air is dry or humid, the gut string changes it's position and twists more or less, so that the female turns outside when it is dry (predicting nice weather) and the male, when it is humid. We will have a couple extra for the cuckoo egg hunt.
Time Limit:
Half Marathon: 6 Hours 30 Minutes, walker friendly. This race is the next step up from races like the Broadstreet run or the Philadelphia Distance run in terms of effort needed to complete. It is considered easy by trail runner standards, but is significantely more difficult than a flat road half marathon due to more difficult footing and elevation.
Marathon: 6 Hours 30 Minutes. Cutoff at mile 14 ( before you start the 2nd loop) 3 hours and 15 minutes.
Temperatures:
The average temp at the start is in the 60ies. Average high at noon is about 70. The course is mostly shaded.
Timing:
The 2015 edition of this race will be chiptimed.
Aid Stations:
Aid Stations are about 3-4 Miles apart and are staffed by local trail runners. Trail runners usually carry a bottle to keep hydrated between aidstations. Gatorade and water will be available at all the aidstation.
Oktoberfest Aidstations (at Mile 3 and 10):
This aid station will feature german carbohydrates, pretzels ... served by the St. Pauli girls. If you decide your PR is not gonna happen today, take a break right there and enjoy the view.
Course:
Along the Pennypack Creek within the limits of Pennypack park. Same improved course we used in 2014 ( in my opinion uses the best trails at PPP). Instead of the 2 loop course new course resembles a figure 8. It's pretty nice , that you run miles and miles within the city limits of Philadelphia without seeing a house or a car at all.
Post Race Party:
Starts around 11AM. We will award the most sloppy/funniest costume and hand out the prizes for the cuckoo egg hunt and of course present awards to the fastest runners.
